Council here will consider the idea of Sunday gun hunting after receiving a request from the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH).
The federation asked council to consider adoption of Sunday gun hunting within the township in a letter presented at the March 8 meeting.
The federation states that so far, 172 southern Ontario municipalities have passed resolutions in support of Sunday gun hunting “with no complaints registered.”
The OFAH says the public safety issue revolves around car/deer collisions, noting over 15,000 such accidents occur annually across the province.
CAO Brad McRoberts suggested councillors await a report before further discussion of the issue.
In neighbouring Wellington North, council recently approved Sunday gun hunting.
