The Suzuki String School of Guelph invites young children to try their hand at the violin, viola or cello as well as drums, xylophones and bells at its Spring Music Fair on March 5 from 10am to 1pm at the Guelph Youth Music Centre, 75 Cardigan St. in Guelph.
The “Children love trying the instruments,” said artistic director Paule Barsalou in a press release. “We have tiny ones so even the smallest child can hold those instruments comfortably. It’s amazing to see the look on their face when the first sounds come out.”
Other activities at the Spring Music Fair are to explore the Orff-Suzuki Music Moves Discovery Area, watch violin, viola and cello group classes, enjoy a snack in the café, create a craft and browse through the used book/CD/DVD sale.
Experts will be on hand to answer questions on the important role of early childhood music education in child development.
“This is also a chance for parents to talk to other parents and find out what are the benefits and the challenges of having a child in music lessons” Barsalou said.
The SSSG was founded in 1972 and is dedicated to teaching early childhood music classes, violin, viola and cello according to the Suzuki philosophy of teaching. It is recognized around the world as a leader in the field of Suzuki teaching. It currently has a faculty of ten highly qualified and experienced teachers working with approximately 160 students, ages 3 to 18. Violin, viola and cello lessons are available in English or French. Violin and viola lessons are also available in Cambridge.
