Local author featured at Fergus event

Belwood resident Silvana Sangiuliano will read poetry and prose selections from recently published anthologies featuring her work at an up coming author event at Roxanne’s Reflections Book and Card Shop in downtown Fergus.

Scheduled for Feb. 27 at 2pm, it’s the first book launch and signing for Sangiuliano, who’s been published extensively in anthologies including Encompass III, Mindshadows, Scarlet Thistles, and The Literary Connection, Volume II, My Canada. Copies of the books will be available to buy and for the author to sign.

Sangiuliano’s poetry and prose have won and been shortlisted in literary contests through organizations like The Ontario Poetry Society, In Our Words, Canadian Stories, the Fergus Riverwalk Festival, the Eden Mills Writers’ Festival, the Wellington County Historical Society, and the Wellington County Museum and Archives.

She has read at a variety of venues, including at the twice-yearly Wordfest events run at the Elora Centre for the Arts and on a local radio program.

A writer, editor, and teacher, she has an English degree from the University of Guelph, is an accredited English teacher through the University of Cambridge, England, and studied at the Italian Cultural Institute.

At times, her work pushes boundaries, and sets aside political correctness to express what others may be thinking, but are afraid to say, states a press release announcing the book launch.

“Sangiuliano’s work draws attention to issues such as social stigmas, poverty, oppression of women and the perpetuation of an individualistic mentality versus a more understanding, socially encompassing and aware society.

“When she departs from serious subjects, her poetry evokes laughter. Her words convey meaning, whether simple or sophisticated, and are empowering, relatable and contemplative.”

Sangiuliano currently resides in Belwood with her husband, Mike, and their two children, Jonah and Joshua, who, she notes, provide her with endless inspiration.
