The Grand Quilt Guild presented 30 quilts to young people

The Community Outreach program of the Grand Quilt Guild of Fergus (GQG) recently presented 30 quilts to Centre Wellington Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

The project began when Nancy Boon, chair of the Community Outreach G.Q.G. contacted Jane Cooper, executive director Centre Wellington Big Brothers, Big Sisters to see whether they would be interested in receiving quilts. They prepared a list of 30 children and young people in the Big Brothers, Big Sisters with their ages and specific interests.

The members of the Grand Quilt Guild then began to plan and design quilts which they hoped each young person would enjoy. There were quilts with themes of Sports, horses, dogs, anything which would appeal to each child.

Boon and some Grand Quilt Guild members attended the meeting at Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Centre Wellington where Cooper and her team gave each young person their special quilt.

The Community Outreach Program at the Grand Quilt Guild prepares quilts throughout the year to support and provide comfort for various programs such as Bridges Out of Poverty (Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health), hospices and hospitals.

Please contact www.grandquiltguild.ca for more information about our guild or about the Community Outreach Program or contact Nancy Boon directly 519-837-8978 or nancy.boon@hotmail.com. to discuss any possible recipients of quilts made by her Community Outreach team.
