Skatepark reaches funding goal

The skateboarders and bikers of Grand Valley got an early Christmas present this week.

Marion Davy, chair of the Grand Valley Skatepark committee, announced the committee has raised enough funds to order phase one of the park’s equipment from Canadian Ramp Company.

Davy received a large donation from Grand Valley Wind Farms, which put the SkatePark committee over its target for the initial equipment purchase. Many other organizations and individuals also donated their time or money to the new SkatePark.

The equipment issue was raised to Grand Valley council in the fall of 2013.

Council unanimously agreed to order phase one and with its financial support, an early summer install date is being arranged.

From bake sales, garage sales, duck dances and many more fundraisers, the SkatePark committee has raised over $35,000.

The Grand Valley Lions club will be donating over $10,000 to this endeavour and is among many who look forward to the new equipment being installed next year and being used by area children.
