Church concert to raise fund for Syrian refugees

On Nov. 22, St. George’s Anglican Church, in Guelph, will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the ordination of the church’s rector, Reverend Canon Ralph Blackman.

This date happens to also be the feast day of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music. As such, there will be an afternoon gala of classical instrumental music by a variety of guest musicians, hymns, and favourite choral pieces by the esteemed St. George’s Choir. Guests will also enjoy a variety of catered appetizers and refreshments in celebration.

The proceeds from this event will primarily benefit St. George’s efforts to sponsor a refugee family from Syria.

“The churches across Canada stepped up to the plate 35 years ago when refugees from Vietnam arrived on our shores, and we see that again now,” said Linda Tripp,  who is heading the Refugee Committee at St. George’s Church in a press release.

“The stories we are hearing are pretty horrendous. We hope to make a difference in the life of one Syrian family and the people of Guelph can help us do that.”

The celebration will take place at 4pm on Nov. 22 at St. George’s Church.

Tickets cost $40 and can be purchased online at ticketscene.ca or directly from the church office in person at 99 Woolwich Street or by calling 519-822-1366. A tax receipt for $20 will be issued to each guest.
