Drayton downs Listowel to hold on to first place

DRAYTON 4 – LISTOWEL 1

Listowel opened the game with a goal in the first period, but Drayton tied it up before the period ended.

Phil Shantz turned a loose puck into an unassisted goal at the six minute mark. However,. Dave Mulder tied it up for Drayton with a hard wrist shot, assisted by Herman Mulder.

Drayton took the lead in the second period with a pair of unanswered goals. Dave Mulder snapped in a power play goal. Herman Mulder followed with a tip-in of an Eric Decker pass. Assists were also earned by Mike DeWeerd and Brandon Rumph.

Drayton added one more goal in the third period. A centring pass by Cam Mohle gave Herman Mulder a breakaway rush.

A shot through the five hole gave Mulder the final goal to complete the Drayton win.

FLORADALE 2 – MISSIONARY 2

Floradale scored midway through the first period to gain an early lead. Josh Brohman sent a pass to Corey Wideman on the right side. Wideman snapped a hard shot to beat the net minder.

Floradale added another goal in the second period. Josh Brohman skated a loose puck to the net and slipped it past the blocker side of the goaltender.

But Missionary came back in the dying seconds of the period. Devin McGuire set up Curtis Bults in the left corner. Bults rocketed the puck into the net with a hard wrist shot.

Missionary fought hard and tied the game midway through the third period. Pat Landman finished a scramble at the net by burying the rebound left by Curtis Bults and Dylan Williams to end the game in a tie.

COMMUNITY 2 – BETHEL 0

Community scored the only goal in the first period. Kevin Gingrich fired a screened shot through the crowd to slip the puck past the left post and into the net. John Horst drew an assist on the play.

Community didn’t add the next goal until deep into the third period.

Tony Martin snapped a hard shot along the ice to beat netminder Derek Wideman on the glove side. Assists went to Kevin Gingrich and Colin Snyder. Chris Stevens turned aside 12 shots in the Community to earn the shutout.
