Listowel scored two unanswered goals in the first period to take control of the game. Max Brubacher snapped in the opening goal in the first minute of play. Phil Shantz jabbed the puck in on the short side for the second goal on a short handed play. Assists went to Josh Shantz, Mike Gingrich and Ben Jantzi.
Listowel added to their lead again in the third period with a power play. A scramble at the net resulted in Phil Shantz burying a rebound left by Brandon Wagler.
One more goal late in the game secured the Listowel win. A leading pass by Travis Shantz gave Brad Gratz a breakaway rush. Gratz went to the net and beat the goaltender with a shot on the blocker side.
Kevin Menkveld held back 22 shots to earn the shut out.
MISSIONARY 5 BETHEL 0
Missionary took the lead in the first period with a pair of goals. Rich Colwill sent a rebound over the shoulder of the Bethel netminder for the first goal.
Curtis Bults trailed the play to snap in a rising wrist shot for the second goal. Assists were earned by Devon McGuire and Pat Landman.
After being outshot 16 to six in the first period, Bethel regrouped and held the second period scoreless.
Missionary did add to their score in the third period with three more unanswered goals. Pat Landman snapped in a wrist shot, Matt Burnett poked in a goal in the short side, and Dylan Bults sent a rising shot into the top corner. Assisted were earned by Curtis Bults, Scott Vandepas, Matt Duff, and Brady Franklin.
Charlie Wagler faced 18 shots for the shutout, while a busy Derek Wideman faced 36 shots in the Bethel net.
DRAYTON 4 FLORADALE 3
Floradale used a power play late in the first period to earn the opening goal. Ryan Martin sent Corey Wideman away with the puck along the left side. Wideman cut in on net and knifed the puck into the short side corner with a back handed shot.
Floradale added a goal late in the second period. Javon Martin started the play with a pass to Ryan Weber along the right boards. Weber skated in on net and tucked the puck under the pads.
Drayton edged into the game early in the third. Cam Mohle was hauled down on the ice as he stretched towards the net with a breakaway bid. Mohle was awarded a penalty shot and scored the goal by tucking the puck into the glove side.
Floradale responded with another power play goal. Braedon Gingrich sent a low shot under the pads of the goaltender for the goal. Assisted by Ryan and Willis Martin.
Drayton added a power play goal of their own midway through the period. A shot by Eric Decker saw Jason Mohle tip in the rebound. Mark Scholten also assisted on the play.
Cam Mohle once again drove to the net and was hauled down to the ice for his second penalty shot attempt. This time Mohle went to the blocker side to slip the puck under the crossbar to tie the score with only 30 seconds left in the game.
Drayton rushed into the Floradale end in the dying seconds. With eight ticks left, Eric Decker finished a scramble at the net with the winning goal. Assists went to Mark Scholten and Rob DeWeerd.
The win put Drayton into fIrst place after the first quarter of the young season.
