Wightman Telecom’s Heels for Hospitals is set for Oct. 17.
Men, women and children from several counties are coming together to show their support for local hospitals (some choose to wear heels, others wear their favourite shoes).
Meeting at the Clifford Rotary Pavilion on Brown Street, participants will walk approximately 1km up Allan Street and back (alternate route is Brown). Team registration opens at 9:30am, and the walk starts at 10am.
Initiated by Paul and Blair Wightman, the event is another way of contributing to the community and giving back, says Heels for Hospitals chair Hope Reidt.
“It’s more important now than ever before to band together and show support for our local communities. This is just one unique way of doing that,” said Reidt.
Wightman will donate $20 for every participant in this year’s event.
Wightman is challenging fellow local businesses and community groups to participate by giving a grand prize. The team that brings in the most pledges will be awarded a full catered dinner, sponsored by Wightman Telecom.
“This is an excellent way to contribute to your local hospital, and build camaraderie with your team,” said Reidt.
For the 7th year in a row, Knapps Shoes in Listowel has donated two pairs of stylish heels – one pair for special guest walker Phil Main from Classic Rock 94.5FM, and the other for Town of Minto Mayor and Wellington County Warden George Bridge.
Both men were fitted and have been practising their “walk.”
All proceeds raised are pledged to the CKNX Radiothon. In its first six years, Wightman’s Heels for Hospitals has raised more than $50,000.
