A plane crash here last weekend sent the pilot to hospital and destroyed the aircraft, Centre Wellington fire officials say.
On Sept. 5 at about 9:47am, Wellington County OPP, Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue and Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services were called to an incident on Sideroad 15 in Centre Wellington Township involving an aircraft that crashed in a private field.
The 64-year-old pilot, the only occupant in the Ultralight Quicksilver dual seat aircraft, was attempting to take-off from a private grass strip when he lost control and crashed into a corn field adjacent to the strip.
When three units from Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue arrived the pilot was still in the plane and, “needed some light extrication and had a leg injury,” said Larry Bolen, chief training officer for the fire department.
Firefighters removed the pilot from the plane and he was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
Transport Canada and the Transportation Safety Board were notified of the incident.
Bolen didn’t have a damage estimate, but said the plane was destroyed and there was some damage to the corn field.
