The Western Region OPP Community Services Unit is urging farmers to take time out of their busy schedules to talk about farm safety.
Many farming operations will be getting into high-gear over the next coming weeks. Every year, the OPP and other emergency services respond to numerous farming accidents which end in serious injury and sometimes death.
“Many of the accidents and lost lives could have been prevented if proper safety measures were in place and not overlooked,” police say, adding dangers around the farm include; farm machinery and equipment, farm chemicals, contaminants and hazardous gases, farm buildings and storage, overhanging wires, ponds and many others.
Children are vulnerable to farm dangers so it is important to take the time to ensure they are always kept well away from harm’s way. Taking time to talk about safety with them could save their life.
