Rockwood Mushroom Fest is issuing a call for entry to artists of all ages for the 2015 festival taking place on Sept. 19.
The Where the Mushrooms Are Art Show seeks to showcase the mighty mushroom, wherever it is found, in the wild, in the greengrocer’s barrow or in the cooking pan.
Last year’s festival gallery was a hit. It seems the artists are as smitten by mushrooms as the chefs. The art works are displayed in the foyer and fellowship hall in St. John’s Anglican Church.
Children are welcome to submit artwork. The key to having a place is early registration. The art work itself does not need to be submitted until mid-September.
The festival attracts 1,000 people or more, and the gallery is a major draw.
Mushroom art submission details
Eligibility: Any artist may enter, and all works will be included, until a maximum of 100 are entered. All works must feature mushrooms in some way. There are two categories: adults with a $15 entry fee per piece and children under 12 with an entry fee of $5 per piece.
There will be no jury; however, two People’s Choice Awards will be awarded in the adult category with the winner receiving $250, and the children’s category with the winner receiving $50.
Work can be in any medium, both wallhung and 3D work. There is a limit of three pieces per artist. The maximum size that will be accepted is 24” x 24” or 12” tall in the case of sculpture, glass ware or ceramics.
Sales
The art does not have to be for sale. However, any works sold will be subject to a 15% commission.
Works will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and a place in the show will be secured by receipt of the appropriate entry fee. So reserve a place by registering early.
