The Centre Wellington Singers is a mixed voice, non-auditioned community choir started by Carol McFadden in 1996.
Members come from Centre Wellington, Guelph and surrounding areas. The choir director is Emily Petrenko, who teaches piano, voice and music theory, and acts as an examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music.
She directs the Elora Youth Singers, two choirs at St. John’s Anglican Church in Elora, and runs the Elora Festival Kids Camp in which children in Grades 2 to 8 produce a musical in five days.
Choir officials state the group is pleased to have Petrenko direct its musical contribution within the Centre Wellington community. Long time accompanist, Betty Weinstein, is taking a break this term. Sam Bibby will provide accompaniment until Weinstein returns.
The Centre Wellington Singers’ practice and performance venue this year is the Elora United Church.
The first rehearsal will be on Sept. 14 at 7:15pm sharp, with registration and music distribution from 6 to 7pm at the Elora United Church. The group’s Christmas concert is on Nov. 28 at 3pm and all are welcome. For more information contact Dave Dougherty at 519-846-1049 or at d.m.dougherty@sympatico.ca
