United Way is hoping area residents will embrace their inner child and join them on a 1,000-foot water slide through the streets of Guelph, as they prepare to kick-off United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin’s 75th anniversary campaign.
On Sept. 12, sliders of all ages can take part in this giant slip and slide event for the “Slide of Your Life,” which will take sliders down Norfolk St., starting at Macdonell St. and ending at Nottingham St.
Other recent similar events have taken place in cities such as Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver under the name “Slide the City.”
United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin has negotiated a rental agreement with “Slide the City,” in order to bring the event to Guelph. Unlike the other venues, all proceeds from Guelph’s event will benefit United Way and the 95 local social service programs it supports.
“This is an exciting event for Guelph and for United Way. Preparations have been underway for months now, and we are happy to see it all come together,” said United Way spokesperson Colleen Murdoch. “Whether you’re a kid or just a kid at heart, we hope you’ll grab a tube and join us at the nearly three-football field long slide, all while supporting our community.”
United Way campaign chair Karen Farbridge said, “What a wonderful way to bring our community together to support an incredible milestone for United Way.”
