Mystery of the vanished saddle donors at Peaches and Ice Cream fundraiser

Both the Aberfoyle Farmers Market and Sunrise Therapeutic Riding Centre have a bit of a mystery on their hands.

Call it the Case of the Missing Saddle Donors.

But residents here would like to be able to thank two ladies who made a special donation recently to help out young people.

In an email to the Wellington Advertiser – Matthew Bulmer, president of the Aberfoyle Farmers Market noted the Aug. 15 Peaches and Ice Cream fundraiser for Sunrise Therapeutic Riding Centre was very well attended and raised over $1,000 for Sunrise.

Bulmer said that in addition to the money raised, two ladies came by the Sunrise booth to say they had a beautiful western saddle they would like to donate.

“One of the Sunrise volunteers went with them and transferred the saddle to the volunteer’s vehicle. Along with a beautiful turnout blanket, saddle blanket and saddle holder.”

However, the donors left before the volunteer was able to get  their names and phone number.

Bulmer said “Over the past week the volunteers at the market as well as at Sunrise have been trying to work out who these donors were and how they heard about the event.”

But those involved have a bit of a mystery on their hands.

“All we know is that their horse died approximately 15 years ago and they had trouble parting with the saddle but figured it was time and Sunrise was definitely a worthwhile cause.”

Bulmer said “for the market, this donation was like a giant cherry on top of the peach sundaes we gave away.”

He added “However, For Sunrise they recognize that this was a very meaningful donation and they would like to speak with the donors about how their generosity will support the children’s programs.”

Bulmer said that since both groups would like to thank the donors, they were looking for assistance to both track down the donors and to encourage them to either contact either Bulmer or Sunrise directly.

Bulmer can be reached at yourmarket@afma.ca and Sunrise at info@sunrise-therapeutic.ca
