Tornado 2015

Residents of Teviotdale won’t soon forget the Civic Holiday weekend of 2015.

Ominous storm clouds that swirled from Lake Huron to eastern Ontario landed, albeit it for a brief time, near the cross roads of Wellington Roads 109 and 123.

It was just long enough to change lives for the foreseeable future.

Damage to farmsteads, homes and businesses along that corridor were significant. Initial estimates are in the millions of dollars. Even the local OPP detachment suffered damage to numerous vehicles on its grounds.

As quickly as disaster struck, rural spirit took root.

Residents from at least three affected townships, namely Wellington North, Minto and Mapleton, gathered as neighbours do and began the clean-up process.

Some farmers in the area were faced with the daunting task of getting milking parlours up and running and making sure ventilation equipment was functioning properly after hydro outages.

The ability to organize and establish priorities in such cases remains a source of wonderment to us. Country folk seem to know what needs done and just get at it.

Tornadoes and weather events happen so quickly and severely it really is amazing no one was killed or seriously injured this time. Some of the victims of the storm whom were interviewed thanked God for sparing their lives. To that we say amen.

We wish those affected by the storm good luck in the coming weeks as they rebuild homes and lives.
