On July 25 a community of parents, kids, volunteer equipment operators and the township got to together to build a new beginner BMX dirt track here.
Five large dump trucks of dirt were brought to Harper Park and a skid steer and loader moved the dirt around. The kids helped shape the jumps and track.
The BMX dirt track is located behind the north-end water tower with access from Harper Crescent only.
Parents provided a potluck lunch for all the volunteers.
“It was very heartwarming and amazing to see a community of parents, kids and dedicated, talented equipment operators come together,” officials stated.
“With the help of the equipment operators we were able to build the whole track in one day – instead of months, by shovel and wheelbarrows.”
Those involved said they wish to thank Cambridge Aggregates Services, Rockscapes, Grand River Tree services and Morrison’s Lawn Care for the material, labour and trees for the track.
They also thanked volunteers – both parents and kids – “who inspired many people to work together and remind us what community is,” as well as Centre Wellington for approving the project and supplying the land, signs and guidance.
