Nonie Thompson and friends return “home” for a very special concert

Nonie Thompson is a musical and storytelling force to be reckoned with. From heady blues, Irish balladry, to Cajun and French Canadian hues, she seamlessly traverses genre with an execution only matched by her uncanny ability to explore equally diverse lyrical themes.

Whether upbeat, sorrowful, poignant or whimsical, Thompson’s songs reach into the landscape of the heart – family, community, memory, discovery, love and loss – woven together by her beautiful voice.

With such an eclectic palette, it is not surprising that Thompson lives many musical lives.

As a singer-songwriter, she has released seven albums to date and has two in the works with multi-instrumentalist Eugene Rea.

As a blues artist, she has been a member of the all-women blues band, Grand Ladies of the Blues, who created a sensation everywhere they performed.

As a Celtic performer, Thompson has crossed the pond to tour in Ireland with Clannad and Altan, and has appeared at major festivals throughout Canada. Now relocated in Penetanguishene, Thompson was known as the hardest working musician in her former home base of Fergus-Elora and Kitchener-Waterloo.

She and Rea have traveled extensively from the east to west coasts of Canada and are much sought after television and radio guests.

Thompson’s talents have also not gone unnoticed by her musical peers. She has been invited to share the stage with Heather Bishop and Pamela Morgan, and to open for such talents as Tommy Makem, Blind Boys of Alabama, Tony McManus and Lee Aaron.

Thompson is very excited to return to Kitchener-Waterloo for this concert and said, “This night will be a time when you bring all your friends together and make many special moments – and a night to remember.”
