Fergus-Elora District Soccer (FEDS) hosted its third annual Special Needs Soccer Festival at Victoria Park on July 11.
The annual event focusses on local adult special needs community members and hosts guests from around the area, including Halton Hills and Kitchener-Waterloo.
Starting at noon after being piped onto the playing fields, afternoon games included nine teams; three from Fergus, four from Kitchener-Waterloo and two from Halton Hills.
The Special Needs Soccer Festival was created by FEDS to give the adult special needs community the opportunity to play soccer, get exercise, interact with their peers, belong to a Sports club and socialize.
Pat Espina, head coach and organizer of the festival, noted the event is not only unique to members and the community, it is also unique in Ontario, as it is the only one of its type in the province.
Others at the podium included FEDS president Chris Slack and Centre Wellington councillor Steven VanLeeuwen.
“Let’s get out there and play soccer,” Espina said.
