Summer pleasures series in ninth season

Every Wednesday during the months of July and August will be busy at the Wellington County Museum and Archives as it hosts Summer Pleasures 2015, a weekly series of eclectic activities for families and visitors in Wellington County.  

Each Wednesday, a themed activity or presentation will take place from 1pm to 4pm, with all programmes appropriate for families and adults of all ages.

Summer activities kick off on July 8 when the museum invite visitors to see “Grand” spaces of our outdoor space: the poor house cemetery, barn, trail, river and lime kiln will all be featured on a self-guided walking tour of the site.  

Programs on the following Wednesdays include:

July 15: Dairy Daze featuring the Wellington County Dairy Educator in the lower part of the renovated barn with dairy treats to taste and lots of games and activities;

July 22: Features stories and activities detailing the life of pioneer youth – lots of work and lots of fun; and

July 29: The “To Be Determined Theatre” presents Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible No Good Very Bad Day! The performance starts at 2pm in the barn.

August begins with two events celebrating the exhibit The Amazing Spider-man Comic Book Collection.

Aug. 5: Features a cartoon workshop with Pablo, a talented cartoon artist and teacher; and

Aug. 12: Everyone is invited to make their own super hero cape.

Aug. 19: features the annual summer tea party. This year plans include formal tea in the Victoria Garden with a presentation by gardener Liane Howell on how to keep a perennial boarder gardens. If the weather is poor, the tea will be indoors. Hats and gloves are always welcome.

Book tea times early as this event has a limited registration with a seating at 2pm.

Aug. 26: The last Wednesday is all about “Bread Making” and back to basics with both modern and old-fashioned methods.

The tea party costs $10 and the cartoon workshop  costs $15 and require registration.

All other afternoons are admission by donation and drop-in format.

Children in attendance must be accompanied by an adult.
