Community Mennonite Fellowship (CMF) in Drayton celebrated the church’s 25th anniversary on the weekend of May 22 to 24.
The theme for the weekend was “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, His love endures forever” from Psalms 136:1.
The congregation was formed from the amalgamation of Moorefield and Berea Mennonite churches and renamed Community Mennonite Fellowship in 1990. The congregation met in the older church buildings until the new facility on Wellington Street in Drayton was completed in 1997.
The Friday evening celebration was a homecoming for past and present youth and youth sponsors, finishing with a fireworks display.
A free carnival for the Mapleton community was held on Saturday, including food, games and bouncy castle. Live music was provided by members of the church and their family and friends.
A display of quilts owned or made by the congregation were on display in the church fellowship hall.
A reunion worship service on Sunday morning included sharing from past ministers Dale Bauman, Winston Martin, Willard Metzger, Ron Weber and Dave Tiessen as well as solos by church members Grace Bruce and Mark Hallman.
During the potluck meal that followed the service there was much fellowship and reminiscing of the past 25 years with the congregation and their guests.
A special part of the weekend were reflections on where the congregation has served with Mennonite Disaster Service in North America as well as in both long-term and short-term missions both nationally and internationally.
The next Youth Mission Trip will be to the Dominican Republic in August.
