Wellington Terrace Long-Term Care Home received two awards recently at the Ontario Association for Not for Profit Homes and Services for Seniors (OANHSS) annual meeting and convention in Toronto.
The Leadership Award was presented to former administrator Peter Barnes, who retired last December.
The second award was the Innovation and Excellence Award presented to the Terrace in the category of Supporting Seniors.
“We are deeply honoured to receive these two awards,” said administrator Laura Holtom.
“Both awards prove that Wellington Terrace and its staff have been, and continue to be, committed to the highest quality of care for our residents.”
Barnes served as administrator at Wellington Terrace for 25 years. He was recognized for his commitment to ensuring the provision of quality care to the residents of Wellington Terrace, as well as his contribution to the OANHSS where he served on the board of directors, as well as various committees.
The Innovation and Excellence Award was presented to the Terrace for their “flexible breakfast program,” which was established in response to the needs of residents living with dementia and confused about their awake and sleep routines. Through the efforts of the entire care team, the extended two-hour breakfast provides a more relaxed approach for residents who feel anxious and restless.
Officials say it helps with their dignity and self-worth and also allows residents with advanced dementia to enjoy increased choice and control.
