The ability to track vital health data in real time on a smart phone or tablet is now a reality with a new Horse Health Tracker App from Equine Guelph.
“The app empowers horse owners to give the ultimate in care to their animals,” officials state. “Owners can assess a horse’s vital health data, body condition score and body weight with a few simple clicks and easily share the information with their health care team.”
Upgrades allow for keeping track of information such as heart rate, temperature and respiration for up to 50 horses and graphs plot the data over a 13-month period.
Instructional videos are also included in the upgrade to show how to properly perform assessments, and appointment reminders sync with smart phone calendars. The app accommodates multiple checks per day, allowing users to monitor sick horses as well as healthy animals. Built-in email capability allows owners to share data with veterinarians.
“The ability to share pertinent information with your veterinarian is a wonderful feature,” said equine practitioner Laura Frost. “The Horse Health Tracker makes it easy for the horse owner to systematically collect vital health data and provide this information in real-time to a veterinarian. This app ensures that important pieces of the puzzle are not missed when communicating health concerns regarding a sick horse.”
A user guide is available at EquineGuelph.ca and the app can be downloaded at the App Store and Google Play.
Purchases will support Equine Guelph in its mission to “Help horses for life,” as proceeds will be invested back into education programs.
The project is partially funded through Growing Forward 2 (GF2), a federal-provincial-territorial initiative. The Agricultural Adaptation Council assists in the delivery of GF2 in Ontario.
