GLT staging classic farce Noises Off

Guelph Little Theatre is putting on a show about putting on a show in the epic farce Noises Off, onstage for 10 performances April 10 to 25 at the Morris Street theatre.

The classic backstage comedy by Michael Frayn follows a troupe of troubled actors on tour in an over-the-top sex farce called Nothing On.

The action spins out of control as the backstage drama combines with the onstage comedy, leading to hysterical results.

“This play is essentially two plays performed simultaneously, pushing the actors to poke some fun at themselves, onstage and off,” says director Trevor Smith Diggins, who also plays the role of the director in the show. “It has become legendary in the theatre for its breakneck pace, split-second timing, and broad physical comedy.”

“The show requires some very tricky staging,” says producer Paul Pengelly, who also plays double-duty as an actor in the play.

“The audience is given an insider’s view of the performance, on the stage and behind the scenes, so it requires a complex set design that can accommodate both perspectives.”

Noises Off runs April 10-25 at Guelph Little Theatre, 176 Morris Street. Showtimes are pm, with two Sunday matinees at 2pm. For tickets and information, visit guelphlittletheatre.com or phone 519-821-0270.

The show is recommended for mature audiences due to adult content and language.
