The Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) recognized excellence in economic development initiatives from Ontario communities on Feb. 12.
Hosted at the Hamilton Convention Centre, the 58th annual Awards Gala was the final event of an outstanding three-day conference.
The gala, in conjunction with the presidents’ dinner, gathered over 300 industry leaders who came together to celebrate and recognize the contribution of their peers.
One hundred and twenty-nine award submissions were made for projects commencing in 2014 by communities from across the province.
The Elora Centre for the Arts was recognized for its efforts in the Elora Art Walk project.
“It is a real privilege to honour such deserving initiatives like, Elora Art Walk.” stated Paul Finley, EDCO president.
Robbie Keith, Chair of the Elora Centre for the Arts attended the gala event and accepted the award with marketing chair Kirk McElwain.
Keith added, “I congratulate the ECFTA Marketing Committee, Chair Kirk McElwain, and graphic artist Julie Denneney for their award-wining effort in making Elora even more of an arts destination.”
A complete list of 2014 recipients can be found at www.edco.on.ca.
On Feb. 17, McElwain told fellow Centre Wellington councillors about the award.
He said the award was for the Art Walk brochure for communities under 10,000. “We’re very pleased with that.”
Mayor Kelly Linton questioned the ‘under 10,000’ category.
McElwain explained the Art Walk centred on just Elora and if the brochure was submitted in the above 10,000 category it would have been competing against much larger communities.
Councillor Fred Morris quipped “and the Oscar goes to …”
