Rachel Luther moved to Fergus over two years ago as the proud owner of the Target franchised pharmacy in town.
“Today is my two year anniversary from being incorporated into a business,” Luther told the Advertiser in a phone interview on Jan. 23. “Right to the day.”
The pharmacist moved from Ottawa with her husband for the sole purpose of opening the pharmacy in Target because, she said, it was a new store to Canada and it seemed exciting.
“I figured that there would be a lot of foot traffic inside of Target,” she said. “You’d have a lot more people than if you were kind of by yourself at a strip mall somewhere.”
Luther said she was caught by surprise when the closure of all Canadian Targets was announced on Jan. 15. It meant that her pharmacy space would also be closing.
However, this doesn’t mean her business is done.
“All the patient files belong to me and I’m going to relocate the business to the north end of Fergus,” she said.
Luther has already signed a lease and will open the new pharmacy as soon as it’s ready, as she’s not required to stay at the Target location until the store permanently closes.
She will be an independent pharmacist in the new space, but, “It’s the same great personalized service you get [at Target Pharmacy,] you’d get at the next place,” she said.
Luther said she will be calling each of her patients individually to let them know about the move and will use media and social media to announce the name of her new pharmacy as well as the opening date.
