OPINION: OFA ready to kick off annual convention

It’s that time of year again – the Ontario Federation of Agriculture’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and convention. In keeping with OFA’s focus over the past year, this year’s convention theme is “Growing Ontario” and highlighting opportunities in Ontario’s agri-food industry.

The OFA first introduced Growing Ontario in the provincial election campaign, reminding candidates how important agriculture is to the economy. The discussion has been continued in the halls of Queen’s Park, in farm fields and along the back roads with members. OFA members, delegates, directors and industry supporters will continue the conversation at this year’s convention, discussing how to continue Growing Ontario.

The OFA’s AGM and convention is Nov. 23 to 25 in Niagara Falls at the Sheraton on the Falls Hotel. More than 400 attendees are expected to meet to discuss important issues, hear speakers on a variety of topics, vote for OFA leadership and be inspired by fellow Ontario farmers.

New this year, OFA is hosting workshops. Attendees can participate in interactive workshops on finance, farm programs, research updates and young farmer mentoring.

Speaker highlights include an economic outlook and address from Jeff Leal, Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Elections for OFA president, vice presidents and director-at-large will also be conducted.

Once again, the Ontario Young Farmers Forum will be held in conjunction with the OFA AGM, giving young farm leaders an opportunity to network with OFA members and industry representatives.

For those who are unable to attend the AGM, you can watch online by visiting www.ofa.on.ca during the event. For a full agenda and event details, visit the OFA website.

The OFA invites all members to the annual AGM and convention, a time to share, catch up with friends and take away new ideas for farms.
