The Town of Minto is hosting an Agricultural Management Institute (AMI) presentation on making the family farm sustainable.
Linda Reader, the coordinator of the Grey County Chefs’ Forum project will lead the presentation that includes stories from farmers and chefs.
The forum has brought farmers and buyers together for since 2012. A recent survey of member farmers in Grey indicated that 77 per cent had increased sales in 2014 and 100% plan to increase production in 2015.
“All good News,” says Reader. “Perhaps some of the strategies that have been so successful in Grey County can be a model for Wellington.”
The idea is to provide farmers with the tools and means to market locally-grown food directly to commercial buyers through business to business trade shows twice a year and partnerships with local distribution companies.
The event is Nov. 13 from 7 to 9pm at the Harriston Library, 88 Mill St. Admission is free. Coffee and desserts by donation. RSVP is required, http://tinyurl.com/knycscq.
