Sensational Soup Off a smashing success

Thanksgiving weekend was a busy one for Sensational Elora, with the children’s Pumpkin Day on Oct. 11 and Sensational Soup Off at the Wellington County Museum and Archives on Oct. 13.

This year there were 14 entries presenting their most famous soups – everything from a mushroom soup that was anything but plain, to corn chowders and keeping with Thanksgiving, a turkey soup.

A great crowd came out this year to taste the soups and prizes were given out in amateur, youth and professional categories.

The winners were: amateur: Penny Francis and her pumpkin black bean soup; youth: Brian Goodwin with his cream of mushroom soup; and professional: Drayton Chop House with their corn chowder with smoked tomato jam.

As with all events held by Sensational Elora, all proceeds went to the Centre Wellington Food Bank and the breakfast program at Centre Wellington District High School.

The three judges for the event were Larry Peters of Cogeco, mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj and Vic Folliott of The Grand 92.9.
