The Town of Minto Cultural Roundtable is inviting musicians to submit their work to the town’s first Songwriters’ Challenge.
To enter the contest, individual artists or bands should check out the contest rules online at www.treasuresofminto.com and email their original song lyrics on the theme “Small Town” to belinda@town.minto.on.ca.
The contest is open to entrants within a 30-kilometre radius of the Town of Minto. Profiles and lyrics must be received by 5pm on Oct. 8.
Judges will review all entries and up to 20 top entrants will move on to perform their songs at the Norgan Theatre on Oct. 23. These 20 performances will be filmed and posted to the Town of Minto website and Facebook pages where public voting will take place from Oct. 24 at 5pm to Oct. 31 at 9am.
A judging panel, made up of three professionals, along with the public’s votes will determine the top eight songs which will be awarded prizes totalling about $600 each, including:
– recording of two songs (Small Town song plus original song of artists’ choice);
– an opportunity for a paid performance at Minto’s 2015 Concerts in the Park series; and
– a gift card from one of the contest sponsors.
