Drayton Entertainment is preparing to launch a tribute to the great leading men of musical theatre.
Interweaving music, comedy and drama, Broadway Heroes is on stage for three weeks from Oct. 1 to 18 at the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge.
Who said men have a hard time expressing their feelings? Broadway Heroes hits all the right notes as David Rogers – Canada’s most accomplished leading man and star of Drayton Entertainment’s epic production of Les Misérables – honours the legendary heroes of Camelot, Fiddler on the Roof, Oklahoma!, Man of La Mancha and many more.
From such renowned performers as Al Jolson, Jack Cassidy and David Burns to modern day stars like Colm Wilkinson, Donny Osmond and Michael Crawford, this musical revue will surely prove them wrong as David Rogers sings some of the most famous music ever performed by the best-loved characters in the history of the “Great White Way.” With plenty of comedy along the way, this montage will have audiences singing along from the very first number to the final bow.
“David Rogers is an exceptional performer with intense passion,” says Alex Mustakas, artistic director of Drayton Entertainment. “A true star of Canadian theatre, we are delighted to welcome him back for Broadway Heroes, which promises to be a remarkable one-man show.”
Discovered by the distinguished Canadian director Alan Lund, David Rogers gained national notoriety after portraying both the Phantom and Raoul in Toronto’s record-breaking production of The Phantom of the Opera. Since then, this charming and charismatic stage performer has starred in many other major Canadian productions including Tommy, CATS, and Evita. He has also become a featured soloist with symphony orchestras across the country.
Most recently, Rogers received acclaim from both audiences and critics alike for his spellbinding performance as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables at the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge.
Rogers will be backed by a group of musicians featuring Mark Payne on piano, Randy Rektor on bass, Daniel Baerg on drums, Jesse Grandmont on violin, Paul Otway on trumpet, Tony DeLuca on woodwinds and Mike Polci on trombone.
Director David Hogan brings a wealth of experience. Music direction is provided by Mark Payne.
Set, costume and lighting designs are by D2 Entertainment.
