Clifford Rotary Club celebrates 70th anniversary with party

Clifford Rotarians shared jokes, stories, and a ham and roast beef dinner with close to 100 people at their 70th anniversary celebration on July 19 at the Clifford Community Centre.

Master of ceremonies Larry Grummett introduced his wife Elsie Grummett, president Kelly Smith, treasurer Dave Seidel, district governor Doug Burnard, past district governor Don Moore, and Mildmay Rotary representative Bob Harrison and his wife Sharon.

The event included a dinner catered by the St. John Lutheran ladies, a silent auction and displays of photos banners, projects, highlights and achievements.

Minto Mayor George Bridge stated his appreciation for the level of support and volunteerism that exists within Clifford and complimented the Rotarians on their worthwhile projects to enhance the parks and playing fields in Clifford.

Earlier in the day, the Rotarians hosted a day at the park with games for children, face painting, bubble blowing, bean bag toss, water balloon toss, obstacle course, three legged races, and wheel barrow races and a candy scramble.

Clifford the Big Red Dog was a big hit with children. The Patrick Mullan family won the draw for the basket of Clifford, the Big Red Dog books.

Currently, the Clifford Rotary Club is looking for new members to join the group, which consists of Smith, vice president Bruce Kaufman, Phil Baumgarten, John Caesar, Ron Cook, Merle Freeman, Wes Gerber, Larry Grummett, Nick Oleksandriw, Trish Palmer, Vic Palmer, Randy Ruetz, Dave Seidel, Leonard Underwood, and Ray Wightman.
