A Wellington County resident has been fined $3,500 for illegal hunting activities in the Municipality of North Perth.
John Frey of Moorefield pleaded guilty and was fined $1,500 for unlawfully discharging a firearm from a roadway, $1,000 for trespassing for the purpose of hunting, and $1,000 for hunting a furbearing mammal without a licence.
He also received a two-year hunting licence suspension.
The court heard that a complaint involving illegal hunting activity south of Palmerston was received on Feb. 6.
Officers say Frey fired at a coyote from Road 140 into a private property when he did not have permission to hunt there. Further investigation determined that Frey was hunting coyotes without a valid licence.
Justice of the Peace Charles R. Campbell heard the case in Stratford on June 24.
