The newly-formed Minto United Soccer Club and Big Brothers and Sisters of North Wellington will benefit from the proceeds of the fourth annual Minto Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament, the municipality has announced.
The two groups will receive funds from the annual event, set to take place on Aug. 14 at Pike Lake Golf Centre.
Marianne Christie, executive director and a case worker for Big Brothers Big Sisters, told council at the May 6 meeting that one third of the organization’s budget comes from the United Way, while the remaining two thirds comes from donations.
“As you can imagine we are very grateful to be chosen as one of the agencies to receive funds,” she stated.
Councillor Ron Elliott said, “I think it’s very important that soccer get involved,” with the tournament. “They’re quite excited to be involved.”
Mayor George Bridge pointed out that Minto United Soccer will need new uniforms for the amalgamated teams and the tournament funds could help with that expense.
“I think it’s great because it’s another organization that’s become Minto, which is very important and moving forward in our journey down that path of uniting all the three towns and the township,” said Bridge.
Over the past three years, the mayor’s tournament has raised $24,000 for Sports groups, service clubs and community betterment organizations serving the Town of Minto.
