Town council has given approval to a site plan for a Tim Hortons in Palmerston.
The plan, presented at the April 15 council meeting, calls for construction of a 42-seat restaurant at the corner of Wellington Road 123 (Main Street) and Minto Road at the entrance to the Palmerston Industrial Park.
In a report to council, CAO Bill White explained the restaurant would feature the company’s “urban design” and include a landscaped outdoor patio with seating for 20 or more.
White said the design includes measures to discourage truck parking on the roadway near the restaurant.
Entrances and parking areas will be bordered with concrete curbs, including curbing between the county road access and Minto Road.
“It is recommended signs be placed prohibiting parking and that this be strictly enforced through the OPP,” the report states. The report also notes the developer is “prepared to enhance the design to provide a barrier curb to help discourage truck parking.”
White told council staff have also been working with owners of the Harriston Tim Hortons on a plan to improve the situation regarding trucks parking along the highway at that location. Councillor Dave Turton said, “I really believe there will be truck traffic,” despite the town’s best efforts to deter it. Developer Phil Lavallee told council he anticipates construction will begin mid-summer and the restaurant is expected to open in late 2014 or early 2015.
