Wightman Communications is ready to prepare Centre Wellington for the future.
On April 15, Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj stated Wightman’s plans are moving ahead for Centre Wellington in both Elora and Fergus.
The plan is to install its “Fibre to the Home” – delivery of a communications signal over optical fibre.
According to Wightman, Fibre to the Home is a fast-growing method of providing vastly higher bandwidth to consumers. It replaces the existing copper infrastructure such as telephone wires and coaxial cable with what officials say is a faster, more reliable method of delivering internet, TV and voice services.
Like water and electricity, fibre has already become an essential utility for many homes and businesses.
Ross-Zuj said this will provide the foundation for even more economic growth in Fergus and Elora and will provide residents and businesses with a communications infrastructure which is ready for the next century.
“Work is expected to begin in the next couple of weeks, so that is another business coming into town.”
A press release from Wightman Telecom stated it has completed renovations in the old LCBO at 490 St. Andrew Street West in Fergus, which will be the company’s home in Centre Wellington. The sales office opens April 28.
Construction is slated to start at the end of April.
