As the weather gets warmer, there will be more cyclists in towns and on county roads.
Wellington County OPP would like to remind motorists and cyclists to be courteous and aware of each other.
“We have a responsibility to share our roads together in a safe manner and make smart driving decisions,” OPP officials state in a press release.
“Bicycles are vehicles and cyclists have the same rights and duties as motorists.”
In an effort to provide some reminders for cyclists and motorists, police stress the Ontario Highway Traffic Act requires the following from both:
– stop at all stop signs and red lights;
– signal all lane changes, turns and stops;
– use proper hand signalling when turning and stopping;
– stop for stopped school buses when the upper alternating red lights are flashing;
– drive/ride on the right side of the road;
– share the road with other users; and
– cyclists must stop and identify themselves when required to stop by police for breaking traffic laws.
