Wellington County councillors paid a total of $786,000 last year

Wellington County ratepayers doled out $786,000 in salaries, benefits and expenses for their 16 elected county councillors last year.

Council has approved the remuneration report presented at its March 27 meeting by county treasurer Ken DeHart.

Warden Chris White was the highest paid county politician at over $110,000. The figure includes an $86,074 salary (of which $28,691 is tax-free) and benefits of $12,178 for a total of $98,252. The warden’s expenses came to $11,787 making the  total payout $110,040.

Councillor Joanne Ross-Zuj came in second on the pay scale with $56,283, made up of salary and benefits of $38,213 and expenses of $18,070.

Councillor George Bridge was paid $48,073 with salary and benefits of $38,368 and expenses of $9,705.

Councillor Bruce Whale’s total remuneration last year was $47,776, comprised of $37,939 in salary and benefits and expenses of $9,837.

Councillor Ken Chapman followed close behind collecting a total of $47,313 (salary and benefits of $37,910 and expenses of $9,403).

Councillor John Green received a total remuneration of $46,650 ($37,960 in salary and benefits and expenses of $8,421).

Councillor Lou Maieron was paid $45,684 (salary and benefits of $38,328 and expenses of $7,356).

Councillor Lynda White followed behind with a total of $45,433  (salary and benefits of $35,792 and expenses of $9,641).

Councillor Don McKay was paid $45,240 ($37,957 in salary and benefits and expenses of $7,283.

Councillor Gary Williamson received a total remuneration of $45,086 (salary and benefits of $36,294 and expenses of $8,792).

Councillor Ray Tout received a total remuneration of $44,829 ($38,198 in salary and benefits and $6,631 in expenses).

Councillor Dennis Lever received $43,353 in total (salary and benefits of $38,934 and expenses of $4,419).

Councillor Gord Tosh received a total of $41,623 ($38,168 in salary and benefits and $3,186 in expenses).

Councillor Jean Innes received $40,584 (salary and benefits of $38,268 and expenses of $2,316).

Councillor Shawn Watters was paid $40,420 (salary and benefits of $38,361 and expenses of $2,059).

Councillor Mark MacKenzie received $38,166 (salary and benefits of $34,591 and expenses of $3,575).

The county remuneration report does not include what seven of the 16 individual councillors who serve as lower-tier mayors were paid by their home municipalities.
