Bowl for Kids Sake is a fundraising event held by Big Brothers Big Sisters to raise funds to help support hundreds of local boys and girls throughout the county.
“Ultimately the goal is to boost self-confidence and possibly get them to become leaders themselves,” said Marianne Christie, executive director at Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of North Wellington.
That chapter provided mentoring programs to close to 100 children in 2013, and hopes to help even more in 2014. Their goal is to raise $60,000 at this year’s Bowl for Kids events.
“I’d love to see all kids take a program because they’re so great,” said Christie.
The community is encouraged to get together and have fun bowling, while also supporting a good cause.
The event kicks-off in North Wellington with three full days at the Mount Forest Bowling Centre:
– Feb. 9 with Minto-Mapleton community bowling at 11am;
– Feb. 23 for Mount Forest community bowling; and
– March 2, Arthur community bowling.
Centre Wellington
BBBS of Centre Wellington raised over $37,000 in 2013, and has a goal of $40,000 for 2014.
It will offer classic bowling and Wii bowling in Centre Wellington on three days:
– Wii bowling on Feb. 20, at St. Joseph’s Church, 760 St. David St. N., from 4 to 9pm, and on Feb. 21 at Victoria Park Seniors Centre, 150 Albert St. W., from 9:30am to 1:30pm; and
– classic bowling on Feb. 23 at Woodlawn Bowl, 253 Woodlawn W., Guelph, from 9am to 6pm.
“We understand not everyone is in a position to volunteer their time on a weekly basis as our Big Brothers, Big Sisters and In School Mentors, but by coming to bowl in our annual Bowl for Kids campaign you are helping out in a really big way,” a recent press release states. “Without the money you help raise we would not be able to continue to provide our programs.”
Grand prizes will be awarded to the three top fundraisers and all individuals who raise over $100 will be entered into a draw for additional prizes and will be invited to the awards evening in April. A plaque will be awarded to the team that raises the most money in each challenge category.
