Chamber Awards of Excellence up for grabs

Nominations for the Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce Awards of Excellence. 

Nominate someone for one or more of the following 13 awards.

The categories are as follows:

Agricultural/Agri Business

This award recognizes any individual, group, organization or business where the principles of running a successful agricultural or related operation are applied and result in a thriving and environmentally friendly endeavour.

Business Beautification

This award is presented to a business, agricultural business, or industry that has taken great pride and ownership of their community corporate image through the exterior maintenance and upkeep of flowerbeds, grounds and landscaping.  Supporting photographs must be attached to this application.

Small/Home Based Business of the Year Award (under 10 employees)

This award is presented to a company that has had an impact on the Centre Wellington community.  This company has demonstrated growth, sales, leadership, an active involvement in the community, good business citizenship, sound employee relations, safety in the workplace, environmental awareness, introduction of a new product or idea, expansion or exportation of goods or services or the turnaround of a failing business.  

Business of the Year (10 or more employees)

This award is presented to a company that has had an impact on the Centre Wellington community and has 10 or more employees. This company has demonstrated growth, sales, leadership, an active involvement in the community, good business citizenship, sound employee relations, safety in the workplace, environmental awareness, introduction of a new product or idea, expansion or exportation of goods or services or the turnaround of a failing business.

Citizen of the Year

This award is presented to an individual who makes an outstanding contribution to the community, with no expectation of personal gain. Unselfish volunteering of personal time and talent towards the betterment of the community are the hallmarks of this award.

Community Social Responsibility

This award, previously the Community Award of Merit, is presented to an individual, group, organization or business that has displayed hard work and dedication to bettering our community.

Corporate Citizen of the Year

This award is presented to a business person that actively works towards making the community a more friendly, safe and pleasurable place to live. The Corporate Citizen of the Year Award identifies those who have a concern for the needs of others, going above and beyond the call of duty with little or no concern for financial gain.

Cultural, Arts, Tourism Impact Award

This award recognizes any individual, group, organization or business for a significant contribution to Centre Wellington’s cultural, arts or tourism activities and impact.

Customer Service Excellence Award

Presented to a business that has provided exceptional customer service by consistently offering a high quality of service to all customers or by going above and beyond the call of duty to provide service to a customer in extenuating circumstances. This nomination must be third party (i.e. no self-nominations).

Sustainable Development Award

This award, previously the Environmental Excellence Award, is presented to a business, person or organization that has demonstrated a commitment to the environment by acting in a responsible manner in all environmental issues.  They provide a positive influence on the manner in which we use our natural resources and demonstrate a commitment in the areas of greenspace and workplace enhancements.  

 Skilled Trades Award

This award is presented to a skilled tradesperson(s), contractor or company that demonstrates an excellent standard for the rest of the industry and their community by their quality, leadership, customer service, skills and work performance.

Youth Citizen of the Year – Alvin Shortt Award

This award recognizes outstanding youth (25 and under) within the Township of Centre Wellington.

The individual must maintain a high level of proficiency in their activity while, at the same time, volunteering and giving back to the community of Centre Wellington. The award recognizes excellence in youth in Centre Wellington with leadership, Sportsmanship, education, and work ethic all being major factors in this award.

This award is open to all Centre Wellington community groups, (including secondary schools serving the youth of Centre Wellington) sport groups, and organizations that wish to recognize the outstanding achievements of a local youth by nominating him or her.

The group’s contact person should be clearly highlighted on the nomination form, which will outline the applicant’s achievements and Centre Wellington commitments.

Young Entrepreneur of the Year

Presented to an individual between 18 and 35 who has distinguished themselves by demonstrating an outstanding business sense, an innovative spirit, and an energetic profile and good community involvement. The business has to have been established for at least two years before the entrepreneur can be eligible for nomination.

In the following two categories no nominations are needed but the recipients are acknowledged at the gala ceremony on May 15, at Fergus Grand Theatre:  

– President’s Award, presented to a worthy recipient as chosen by the current CWCC President; and  

25 and 40 Years Long Service Awards presented to  businesses operating in Centre Wellington for 25 or 40 years.  Advise the chamber if you qualify or know a business that does.
