Local farm wins big at Royal sheep show

Strathearl Suffolks of Rockwood, owned by Irwin and Mary Jackson, had a very successful day at the recent Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.

Almost 40 years of breeding purebred Suffolks sheep resulted in Champion and Reserve Champion Ewes for the Jacksons, as well as Champion Ram, 1st Get of Sire and 1st Breeders Flock.

The points of each individual class winner was enough for Strathearl Suffolks to be named Premier Breeder and Exhibitor in the Suffolk Breed and their overall points were the highest at the show to crown them Supreme overall breeds Premier Breeder.

The Jacksons’ son, Spencer Jackson, with his GreenValley Hampshires, also had a great day exhibiting at the Royal Winter Fair. He won Champion Ewe, had 1st Place Breeders Flock, 1st Get of Sire, was the recipient of the Loyd Ayre Trophy for best pair of females, and was named Premier Hampshire Breeder.

The Jackson family wishes to thank the Royal Winter Fair for “always putting on such a wonderful show.” They also wished to thank all the sponsors and supporters of the show.

“Whether it be by donating your time, or prizes, you all contribute to the success of the show making the Royal Winter Fair an international icon,” the family stated in a press release.
