Members and guests of the Moorefield and District Horticultural Society marked the end of a successful year with a potluck supper, Christmas show and annual meeting on Nov. 26 at the Optimist Hall in Moorefield.
After a meal, the many entries for the flower show were judged by the members. There were three sections for the entries: designs, decorations and men’s special.
Prizes were won by Hannah Veld, Jerry Ottens, Jean Dobben, Henk Timmerman, Bernie Veld and Linda Timmerman.
Four members received a special award in recognition of their contribution to the society over the years. Leonard and Clara Bauman and Bernie and Hannah Veld were given life memberships from the Ontario Horticultural Association.
These awards are given to members who have been part of their local society for 15 years or more and who continue to have interest in horticulture and participate in society programs.
A special thanks was given to the members who were involved in the various activities of the society.
Hannah Veld thanked everyone for coming and the meeting was adjourned.
The 2014 season will begin on the fourth Tuesday in February. New members are welcome to join.
