Town, CRA agree on ball park lights

The Town of Minto and the Clifford Recreation Association (CRA) have agreed on a plan for installation of lights at a new ball diamond here.

The CRA is heading up a group of local businesses and service clubs in Clifford who would like to cover the costs of installing lights at the diamond. They have already collectively raised $38,000. The estimated project cost is $68,000. An application for a grant has been submitted to the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) to cover the balance.

In order to complete the OFT application, an agreement between the CRA and the town needs to be in place giving the CRA permission to pursue the lighting project.

“The proposed agreement would satisfy the requirements of OTF and allow the application process to move forward,” noted recreation services manager Matt Lubbers at the Nov. 19 Minto council meeting.

The agreement calls for the CRA to cover all capital costs, with the town covering all future operational costs and keeping all revenue generated by the usage of the park and diamond.
