Bad News can often dominate media headlines, both locally and across the nation.
But as proven in this week’s Advertiser, there are countless good News stories happening every day in every community across Wellington County. Time and time again we are told firsthand – and through the pages of this Newspaper – about communities rallying together for the greater good or to help a family or individual in need.
While everyone may seem more generous as the holidays approach – and there are many examples of that in this edition – this week readers will rediscover there is far more than just the coming of Christmas that compels local residents to selflessly and generously come to the aid of others.
The community of Guelph-Eramosa is rallying behind the Prescott-Powers family after it lost its home near Rockwood in a Nov. 12 fire. Already a trust account is set up and a bake sale at the local school is planned, and we are sure there will be more events scheduled to help the family. We are also positive those in Guelph-Eramosa and beyond will respond to all calls for help with the energy and enthusiasm we have witnessed countless times before.
In Fergus, a local church, businesses and individuals have offered assistance to Vandermarel Trucking after several of its buildings and much of its equipment was destroyed in a fire on Nov. 16.
Groves hospital officials recently hosted an annual appreciation ceremony for it many volunteers, who give tirelessly 365 days a year to their hospital.
Of course, residents across the county will also be responding to calls for seasonal help from food banks and other service clubs and organizations to help make this Christmas a special one for the less fortunate among us.
These are but a few of the myriad examples of why Wellington County is such a wonderful place to call home.
