Centre Wellington Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj sees Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne’s recent announcement regarding the racing industry as promising for Centre Wellington.
On Oct. 22, Ross-Zuj told members of Centre Wellington council about the contribution to the race industry.
“It was a wonderful day.”
Ross-Zuj said the premier was delighted to be back in Centre Wellington to make the announcement.
The mayor said there seemed to be a positive response from everyone, particularly those with the Grand River Raceway.
“They felt they finally had a bit of secure News that this will allow them to plan for the future,” said Ross-Zuj.
“There seemed to be a bit of weight coming off their shoulders.”
With the five-year funding plan in place, the raceway can move ahead with its strategic plan for the future.
Ross-Zuj also had a chance to meet with the new Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) chairman Philip Olsson.
Talks included the community’s past partnerships and plans for the future.
The mayor anticipated lots of News to be coming forward.
“We still do not know about who is going to be taking over the gaming [aspect],” Ross-Zuj said.
“That is still out there. We probably won’t know for months.”
Overall, the mayor saw Wynne’s funding announcement “as good News for the equine industry.”
