Eighteen of the 242 Ross Ferguson Squadron Air Cadets new and returning cadets travelled to Blackdown, CFB Base Borden for Gliding on Oct. 19 .
Some of the cadets were not only given the opportunity to be a passenger but were given the controls to fly the glider.
Gliding is one of the major highlights cadets enjoy with the Air Cadet program in Erin.
The program is funded through the Ontario Provincial Committee (OPC) Annual Lottery.
Every squadron across Ontario joins together to sell tickets for the lottery with the top prize being a 2014 Honda Pilot LX or a 2014 Honda Odyssey.
The squadron will be selling tickets until Christmas for the April 2014 draw. Stop by the Legion on a Tuesday evening between 7 and 9pm.
The squadron would like to thank all the store owners who allowed the cadets to stand by their entrances in Erin, Hillsburgh and Caledon during their Fall Tagging Donation Drive to collect donations for the squadron. The weekend raised just under $2,900.
Fundraising is conducted by the squadron sponsoring committee to support the many activity-related components of the air cadet program.
Tagging is one major fundraiser as is an annual lasagna dinner. This year’s lasagna dinner has been scheduled for Feb. 8.
Money raised from these activities fund field trips, multi-unit Sports competition weekends and the cadet shooting/biathlon team.
Cadets is a national program offered to all youth aged 12 to 18, promoting discipline, leadership, citizenship, physical activity and healthy living.
Recruits are accepted continuously and may stop by the Legion any Tuesday evening. For information visit http://www.erinaircadets.webs.com/.
