Groups host Celebrate Ontario workshop

Elora and Fergus Tourism, along with Guelph Tourism, is hosting a free Celebrate Ontario 2014 Workshop here on Oct. 21.

Celebrate Ontario 2014 is a government program that helps new or existing Ontario festivals and events enhance programs, activities and services that will lead to long-term improvements.

This support helps grow tourism in the region by making it easier for festival and event organizers to offer new and improved experiences that will attract more tourists and increase visitor spending.

The Celebrate Ontario 2014 program is now open and receiving applications through the Grants Ontario System.

The Oct. 21 workshop workshop will be led by Paul Samson, industry advisor for Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. She will discuss new program criteria and requirements, best practices and any other questions on the grant, scoring and decision process.

“Grant applications can be an intimidating and time consuming process,” says Deb Dalziel of Elora Fergus Tourism.

“The aim of this workshop is to demystify the process, clarify any confusion and ultimately help our tourism stakeholders get access to much needed funds to further support the wealth of festivals and events our region boasts.”

Officials want to remind people it’s not just traditional tourism events that are included this year  – a new international amateur sport hosting category has been added.

The workshop takes place at the Wellington County Museum and Archives’ Aboyne Hall, located on Wellington Road 18, between Fergus and Elora, on Oct. 21 from 2 to 4pm. Light refreshments will be served and admission is free.
