Lever wants to see report on long and short term industrial land needs

On Sept. 18, Puslinch Mayor Dennis Lever put forward a notice of motion to have the Wellington County Planning Department produce a report on the long- and short-term needs for proposed industrial and commercial land within the municipality.

Lever explained that following discussions with the department, he was informed that in order for the department to move forward, a resolution of council was needed.

The official motion would likely come forward at the next council session.

Lever said that with the construction of the Maple Leaf Foods facility and the sale of nearby commercial lands within the industrial park, “when you look around there are not many properties (of that type) left.”

Lever said Puslinch needs both a long- and short-term plan to address this in the future – “or we are not going to have any more commercial or industrial assessment.”

If that happened, he said any cost increases to the municipality would have to be shouldered directly by residential taxpayers.
