Following a two-hour in-camera session with its solicitor on Sept. 17, councillors here are going to take a serious second look at the town’s fill bylaw.
As he made the announcement, Mayor Lou Maieron said there would be reconsideration of some of the items within the town’s bylaw to address concerns brought forward by local residents.
“It’s probably going to take a month or two to address these concerns. We’ve given direction to staff to go forward to address the issues,” said Maieron.
“I think this is a step in the positive direction.”
The announcement was followed by a question from the audience about what would happen in the interim while council is reviewing and revising the bylaw.
The mayor stated there are a number of ongoing fill issues and wondered whether those operations will continue – and face having to conform to a new bylaw or “do they have a get-out-of-jail-free card.”
Maieron turned to Erin planner Sally Stull for answers about what happens in the interim period. Stull said there are bylaws in place.
Maieron said the town’s existing bylaws would remain in place until changes are made.
