Learning disabilities association celebrating 25th anniversary

The Learning Disabilities Association of Wellington County (LDAWC)is proud to celebrate its 25th year on Oct. 9 at 7pm at Community Living, located at 8 Royal Road here.

The LDAWC is celebrating 25 years as a chartered member of the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario, 40 years of supporting those with learning disabilities in this community, and the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario’s 50th Anniversary.

As part of the Oct. 9 celebration, Lawrence Barnes, president and CEO of the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario, will talk about the association’s efforts across the province and Canada, and its partnership with the Ministry of Education. Barnes’ presentation will be followed by cake and refreshments.

The LDAWC is funded by The United Way. It is a charitable, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children, youths and adults with learning disabilities. Through outreach, education, advising and advocacy, the association’s mandate is to advance the education, employment, social development, legal rights and general well-being of individuals with learning disabilities.

A learning disability is often referred to as “the invisible disability” because when meeting someone, it is not easy to tell if they have difficulty with reading, writing, math or organizational skills.

People with learning disabilities are often circumscribed because they are not able to perform what most people consider simple tasks. To register for the Oct. 9 event call 519-837-2050 or email info@ldawc.ca.
